Shawn Carvin:
Mortgage Banker and Home Loan Expert
Shawn Carvin has been in the financial industry for nearly 30 years, more than half of that time spent in the mortgage industry. Shawn has been licensed in, and closed loans in more than 25 states, and owned his own lending companies for 8 years. Currently, he is federally (NMLS) and California licensed.
“I became a mortgage banker because I was in financial services and enjoyed what I was doing. I had several family members that were in the mortgage industry and they encouraged me to learn the business,” Sean explained.
During his lengthy career, Shawn has gained knowledge in all facets of mortgage lending. He held roles as a principal broker/lender and president of a lending company. He also was a branch manager for two California direct lenders, and was owner/partner in an escrow company. Shawn has been recognized with numerous top producer awards from major mortgage lenders including Wells Fargo, GreenPoint, World Savings, and New Century.
One of Shawn’s specialties is working with clients who are underserved, overlooked, or even outright dismissed by traditional banks and other large lenders. In the wake of the 2007 – 2009 economic crisis, most lenders have tightened their underwriting requirements to cherry-pick only the lowest-risk borrowers. This has left many worthwhile homebuyers with what mainstream lenders consider unacceptable risks — “average” credit, income challenges, self-employment — standing on the sidelines.
Shawn has a passion for helping clients with such difficulties and takes a creative approach to getting them approved for mortgage loans or refinancing. In particular, Shawn is an expert when it comes to government-backed home loan programs – FHA, VA, and USDA mortgages – which offer very attractive interest rates and affordable down payments to make the dream of home ownership a reality for more people.
“Nothing is more rewarding to me than working with a client who is excited about getting the opportunity to buy a house they want, especially when other lenders might not have given them the same chance,” said Shawn.
Shawn is originally from Florida and moved to Los Angeles in 2009 to be closer to his mother who lives in Sherman Oaks, along with other family members in the area. He particularly enjoys L.A.’s diverse culture, beautiful landscape and weather, and recreational opportunities. In his free time, Shawn likes music and movies, long drives to secluded places, traveling, fishing, and the great outdoors.
